Carla Smith consistently supports legislation that benefits parks and has taken the initiative to improve parks in her District by helping to create and support friends of the park groups. Learn More about how you can be an advocate for a park in your area.


Councilmember Smith brings “My Neighbor the Operator” to schools in District One - this program reinforces the connection between quality of life in the Atlanta community and the services provided by City of Atlanta water and wastewater operations professionals. In 2006 the program kicked off with fifth graders at Benteen. In 2007 the program went to John Wesley Dobbs and in 2008 the program was at the Neighborhood Charter School.

Construction activities on the Stockade Sewer Separation project are complete as restoration activities such as milling & paving, tree planting continue.

Mayor Shirley Franklin joined City Councilmember Carla Smith (District 1) City Watershed Management officials and other wastewater representatives at Benteen Elementary School to launch the City’s “My Neighbor, the Operator” water conservation program.

Clean Water Atlanta is the City’s comprehensive, long-term plan to ensure clean drinking water for Atlanta, and clean streams and clean wastewater flows for Atlanta and its downstream neighbors.

The mission of The Clean Air Campaign is to motivate Georgians to take action to improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion. To accomplish this mission, The Clean Air Campaign offers a variety of voluntary programs and services, including free employer assistance, public information and children's education.
